Why Is Having a Best Friend Firefighter Isn’t Always What It’s Cracked Up to Be?

firefighters

There seems to be some long-standing feud between law enforcement, paramedics, and firefighters, but that doesn’t mean they don’t respect each other.

In fact, it’s quite possible that they can be friends and for some pretty awesome reasons.

1. They know how to deal with emergencies.

When your little girl runs into the sharp corner because she’s on a sugar high and has a huge knot on her forehead, you don’t have to panic and call 911. You can call a paramedic. When you answer their questions, and they tell you your little girl will be okay, you can trust that they know what they’re talking about.

2. They’re great at fixing things.

When stuff breaks around your house, and you don’t know how to fix it, you can count on your firefighter buddy to fix it. It’s just in their blood.

3. They are loyal and dedicated.

Whatever cops might say about any firefighter, you can take it with a grain of salt. Many firefighters are among the most dedicated and loyal people in the world. You could call them up when they’re dead asleep and instead of getting mad, they’ll ask how they can help.

4. They are easy to beat at laser tag.

You would think that having to carry heavy equipment and that huge hose, they’d be a little more coordinated. Unfortunately, they are horrible at the game!
So, with all those great reasons why a firefighter would make for a great friend… Here are some not so great things about being friends with them.

1. Everyone assumes cops are horrible at fixing things.

You know how we said firefighters can fix the things you don’t know how to fix? Well, they like to take that to heart, and they assume that no one can fix anything without their help.

2. They’re obsessed with any and all types of food.

Meal time is every time for a firefighter. These guys brag about their skills in the kitchen all the time. Firefighters have such odd hours, when they aren’t cleaning the fire station and responding to emergencies, we guess they have to do something to keep them occupied, so it may as well be learning how to cook.

3. They like being right.

Okay, it goes beyond simply being right—they like to rub it in your face that they were right about this or that, and you were oh so wrong. Sometimes these guys will even disagree with what you say just to disagree. It can be annoying, but it isn’t something to ruin a friendship over, right?

4. They love their big red trucks.

Firefighters will cruise down the road real slow like to make sure everyone sees them in their huge red truck. Everyone wants to hop on board the fire truck and who can blame them? It’s awesome. The only the problem is, they hog all the attention from the ladies!

5. There is no guarantee that they’ll come home at the end of the day.

Like all service jobs, there is a risk involved. That risk could mean they may not come home because something horrible happened when they are out on a call. Because of that, it makes it hard not to get worried when they don’t pick up their phone. That dear reader, may be the worst part of being friends with a firefighter.
