Marine Pen Pals

What’s a Marine Pen Pal Program?

A marine pen pal program is usually a program facilitated by a company or organization that allows you to “adopt a marine penpal.” When marines are away on duty it’s encouraging for them to hear from people back home, which has led to people setting up these kind of programs.

At UniformDating we do not offer a marine pen pal program, what we offer is a place where single marines and other people who work in professions that require a uniform (and those who support them!) can come together to mingle. This often leads to people becoming pen pals though, as people in the military are away on duty and can’t meet up straight away. So, we’re the perfect place to find marine pen pals!

Being a marine pen pal is an honor really as you’re giving someone who’s fighting for your country hope whilst they’re away. And it can be really romantic too. Think Dear John kind of romantic. Of course, you won’t know if you have chemistry in real life, but that’s part of what makes it so exciting. If nothing else, you’re sure to find yourself a new friend. And if you reach out to a few different people, you’ll make several connections that might last a life time! As they say - it starts with hello!

Tips for Getting Marine Penpals

If you want to find a marine penpal through our site, there are a few things that will help you along the way. The same things that will help anyone who’s doing online dating.

First of all, create a nice profile. This means having a profile with a good couple of profile pictures that show off you and your life. Remember that an image can say more than a thousand words. That’s also why you should avoid bathroom selfies; your bathroom is not a great selling point for who you are! And no, your boss or friends won’t faint if they see your face on an online dating site. Guess why? There’s a reason they’re on that site themselves. About 30-50% of singles today use online dating. Get with the trend!

A nice profile also means sharing enough about yourself to make people want to find out more. It’s a teaser for your life, really. Avoid making it too long, avoid talking about what you don’t want in a date, avoid negativity and too much sarcasm and definitively don’t give out personal details about work, credit card numbers, etc. If you aren’t great at selling yourself, have two friends help you out. That way you get two more perspectives.

How to Start a Conversation with a Marine Penpal

Be sure to send a message to the people whose profile catch your eye.

A message should be short, but include something personal. For example, tell them their profile caught your attention because like them you enjoy traveling. Then share what your favorite travel destination has been so far and ask them about theirs. Finish by saying you’d love to hear from them.

Messages like “Hey, I like your profile, wanna chat?” aren’t exactly exciting. They won’t sell you to a potential marine pen pal. Maybe you are better at chatting than writing long messages (there are chat rooms on UniformDating for that - the more modern way of having marine corps pen pals!), but you still have to get them interested in chatting with you. You do that by showing you have things in common and are an overall nice person.

Another thing to avoid is to tell someone they’re extremely attractive in a first message. You want to show a bit more depth than that. After all, if you’re going to be pen pals if they happen to be away at the time, you need to show you can have a written conversation that isn’t just about their looks.
